Preparing for the interview

Preparing for the interview

This is a program implemented in Child Care Centers. The child participates in the program together with a safe parent or legal guardian. Adults learn about the conditions and procedure for interrogating minors, which helps to reduce the fears and tensions associated with the crime situation and the prospect of interrogating a child, which arise from ignorance and helplessness. In addition, we indicate options for seeking professional help from a child witness and their family.

Any child can participate in the program, who must be interviewed and informed to the Child Care Center by a parent or legal guardian. Find the nearest place: https://centrapomocydzieciom.fdds.pl/placowki-cpd/

What do the specialists in the program do?

  • they provide the child with knowledge about the role of a witness and the interrogation procedure (reducing anxiety before a new, unknown situation, understanding the child’s role in criminal proceedings, their rights and obligations);
  • increase the child’s competence by practicing concentration of attention, attentive listening to questions, formulating answers to questions, and narration-skills that contribute to giving valuable testimony;
  • try to reduce the fear and tension associated with participating in criminal proceedings-develop a strategy for coping with stress using its individual capabilities;
  • they explain why they are used for giving evidence;
  • they show the interview room.

What do the specialists in the program not do?

  • they do not talk about the event that concerns the interrogation;
  • they do not teach the child specific content;
  • they do not practice with the child how to cover certain events in the crime;
  • they do not correct his way of thinking, they do not improve his vocabulary and speech style.
