The Foundation We Give Children Strength has been working for years on children’s safety on the Internet and promoting digital hygiene. One of our more important projects is called “Home Screen Rules.” In it, we promote the idea of setting rules for screen use among household members, so that it promotes safety, balance and family relationships.
Our previous media campaigns promoting the idea of screen rules have focused on the harm of children’s excessive and early use of screens. In the latest campaign, “Close to the phone – far from the child,” we focus another aspect of the problem – on how screens in the hands of parents negatively affect the relationship with the child and its development. We support the message with research information and advice for parents on why and how to limit the use of screens in front of a child. The campaign is based on a series of photographs taken by Jacek Kolodziejski. The campaign is carried out in urban spaces and online. Campaign website: www.domowezasadyekranowe.pl

WHY IS THE PARENT-CHILD RELATIONSHIP
IN THE FIRST YEARS OF ITS LIFE IS SO IMPORTANT?
All the experiences of the first years of life influence our later behavior, because the associations formed early in life are extremely strong and deep. Especially those related to care, soothing, emotional atmosphere. These are the ones that will influence how we experience relationships and how we interpret them as we grow up. If, during this period of life, a child has good enough caregivers who are reasonably good at recognizing his needs and meeting them with care and surrounding him with love and attention, the child will develop a trusting attachment style. If, on the other hand, the child then experiences neglect, abandonment, this will negatively affect the child’s sense of security in later life.
In building a secure relationship, the most important things are:
- The presence of caregivers in the child’s life,
- commitment to care,
- Responding to signals sent by the child,
- Soothing when a child feels discomfort,
- common activities.
